Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482)

For invited workers and New Zealand citizens with skills that Australia needs to live and work permanently anywhere in Australia.

There are four streams:

  • Short term stream
  • Medium term stream
  • Labour agreement stream
  • Subsequent entrant Stream

482A Short Term Stream Details:

This visa stream enables employers to address short term labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled overseas workers where employers cannot source an appropriately skilled Australian.

Stay period  You can stay for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.
Requirements
  • Work in Australia for your sponsor;
  • Study (you won’t receive government assistance);
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid.
Cost 

Main Applicant:

  • From $1,175 AUD.

Sub Applicant:

  • Over 18 years of age: AU $1,175;
  • Under 18 years of age: AU $295.
Conditions 
  • Character;
  • Health Cover;
  • Approved to work only.
Processing times 
  • 75% of applications: 33 days;
  • 90% of applications 67 days.

482B Medium Term Stream Details:

This visa enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian

Stay period  Up to 4 years.
What you can do with this visa 
  • Live, work and study in Australia for up to 4 years;
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid.
Requirements Must:

  • Be sponsored to work in an occupation on the list of eligible medium and long-term skilled occupation;
  • Have at least 2 years relevant work experience.
Cost 

Main Applicant:

  • From $2,455 AUD.

Sub Applicant:

  • Over 18 years of age: AU $2,445;
  • Under 18 years of age: AU $615.

  • Approved to work only.
Processing times 
  • 75% of applications 22 days
  • 90% of applications 62 days

482C Labour Agreement Stream Details:

This visa is for skilled workers nominated by an employers with a Labour Agreement. It lets you live and work in Australia temporarily.

Stay period Up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the terms in the labour agreement.
What you can do with this visa
  • Work in Australian for up to 4 years for your sponsor;
  • Study (you won’t receive government assistance);
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want, while the visa is valid.
Requirements Must:

  • Have a suitable relevant skills assessment for some the occupations;
  • Work for your sponsor;
  • Have sufficient English.
Cost

Main Applicant:

  • From $2,455 AUD.

Sub Applicant:

  • Over 18 years of age: AU $2,445;
  • Under 18 years of age: AU $615.

  • Health Cover;
  • Approved to work only.
Processing times
  • 75% of applications: 32 days;
  • 90% of applications: 78 days.

482D Subsequent Entrant Stream Details:

This visa enables genuinely skilled workers brought in to address labour shortages to bring their family. It is for family members of subclass 482 and 457 visa holders.

Stay period You can stay for as long as your visa is valid.
What you can do with this visa
  • Live, work and study in Australia;
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want, while the visa is valid.
Requirements Must:

  • Be a partner or dependent of a subclass 482 or 457 visa holder.
Cost

Main Applicant:

  • From $1,175 AUD.

Sub Applicant:

  • Over 18 years of age: AU $1,175;
  • Under 18 years of age: AU $295.
